Historic UCR Barn Begins Construction
The century old building known as “The Barn” is one of the most popular and beloved places on the University of California, Riverside campus. In the past, The Barn was a venue for live music and the university hopes to bring back the lively outdoor atmosphere after the $20 million renovation.
It is important to both the campus and the community to keep the exterior look of a barn. Tilden-Coil will work with the client and design team to make sure the renovation does not remove the “barn-like” feel of the facility, but rather improve the structure and size of what it currently is. UCR hopes to accommodate as many as 400 people in the new and improved dining area and outside concert area of The Barn. According to a Press Enterprise article, David Henry, executive director of dining, hospitality and retail services, said, “We’re trying to bring The Barn back to where it sort of used to be, but in its newer environment -- without the horses and carriages.”
Scheduled to open in 2020, Tilden-Coil Constructors, along with our industry partners, have already broke ground on this unique project. We, along with the students and faculty of UCR are excited to see the new and improved Barn, while simultaneously holding on to its historic value.
